The Greenwich Presenation -- 7th September 2005
 |
The Corum Presentation at Greenwich |
On the 7th September 2005, President of Corum Swiss Timepieces Michael Wunderman formally presented David Green of the UKSA with a chronograph to be used by Gipsy Moth IV’s skippers to navigate her safely around the world for her second circumnavigation. A chronograph is an important piece of equipment for any seafarer navigating using traditional methods, it is used in conjunction with a sextant to plot the yacht’s position on the worlds surface and is the primary navigational method being used by Gipsy Moth IV as she sails the world.
The presentation took place at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, on the Meridian Line where time begins. It was felt this was the appropriate place for the presentation as it combined the history of timekeeping, Gipsy Moth IV’s strong connections to Greenwich as well as Gipsy Moth IV’s return to the capital for her re-dedication by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal.
The Southampton Launch -- 16th September 2005

|
On Friday 16th of September, at the opening of the Southampton International Boatshow, Corum Watches unveiled their limited edition Gipsy Moth Automatic Timepiece. The Corum timepiece will be used on the boat which together with the sextant donated to the project at Greenwich will be crucial to navigating the boat successfully around the world. Ever since Corum joined our team of project partners as the official time keeper for the global voyage, there was a great deal of anticipation surrounding the unveiling of their Gipsy Moth Automatic Timepiece. Boldness destinction and excellence have been the cornerstone of Corum’s design philosophy since the company’s establishment in 1955. It was the synergy of these values with those of the Gipsy Moth IV project that lead to the partnership.
Since the launch Corum have already received 70 orders for the watch within the UK and are taking orders from retailers as faraway as Singapore which is very encouraging considering the watch isn’t available until April 2006! Corum are expecting another 60 orders from their network of distributors around the globe, making quite a contribution to the Gipsy Moth fund. The watch has already caught the attention of the glossy magazines and features as one of next years ‘must have’ items for the man about town!

The timepiece is available in 18Kt yellow, white or rose gold. Each watch comes in a superb piece of designer packaging including a copy of Francis Chichester’s book Gipsy Moth Circles the World, together with a certificate entitling the owner to a day’s sailing onboard Gipsy Moth IV.
This watch is limited edition and only 250 watches globally are available through nominated Corum retailers worldwide.
For each watch sold a percentage of the profits will go to supporting young people on the voyage. We think you will agree, the watch is an incredable item, and is a great way for you to show your support for the project by purchasing a timepiece that you will covet and treasure for many many years to come.
