WE'RE GETTING IT ALL

Sunday 22nd April 2007
We’re getting it all

Sam’s dairy
Had a wicked few days, the best bits have been putting a storm sail up in force 7 winds, watching everyone be sick, washing up at 55 degrees and eating food of my belly chest and face. The worst thing that’s happen at the moment is that everyone has now recovered from sea sickness so most of my entertainment left the boat. I’m truly happy to be here and would like to find another boat to get on, please help lol.

Josh’s diary
We went swimming in the see today. The depth under us was 2000 meters which felt cool. We just spotted a dolphin but it disappeared after one appearance. During the morning watch the fog was really bad, but we managed. During the night watch we were teaching each other random stuff like star patterns, my GCSE revision, knots and navigating.

Amy’s Diary
Today has been the sunniest day ever. We started off the morning with a really beautiful sunrise but soon were surrounded by fog and spend most of the time staring at the radar. It was nice this morning to see the boat with all her sails up all though we were just barely moving. My favourite part of the day has been going for a swim in the sea and chilling out on the side of the boat. Also seeing Sam’s attempts at fishing was rather interesting.

Noor’s diary
Well my last couple of days have been fabulous apart from the storm on 20th which was Friday we took off from Malta. I had been sick and throwing up like crazy. Today has been an exciting day for all of us we had a swim in open water which was kind of cold.
I am happy to be here and would like to be on another sailing trip. It took me about a day to get used to the environment of the water and all. Malta was great fun and some beautiful scenes and buildings so yeah I am enjoying my self.

Well it looks like we are getting it all on this trip. With the strong winds of Friday, the light winds on Saturday & today we have had thick fog, a real pea supper! We started the day motoring through the Egadi Islands & out into the Tyrrhenian Sea. Around 0530 a light NE breeze filled in so we set running sail, main & mizzen & enjoyed an hour of peace as we watched the most beautiful sun rise unfold. After carrying out some basic engine checks & finishing our toast we sailed in to a fog bank & the wind died away. With the engine & radar on we picked our way through the fog for 2 hours until the sun took charge of the day & burnt the fog away.

We spent the rest of the day motoring in calm conditions 330 towards the north east of Sardinia. Most of the day was spent cleaning, topping up water, fuel & carrying out some routine maintenance. At 1400 after a nice lunch we stopped for a swim & a welcome wash. To finish the day off nicely a pod of dolphin played on the bow. The crew are all feeling in good spirits & are looking forward to arriving in Sardinia on Monday afternoon.

Andrew Eccleston's weather forecasts will appear in this section when the leg begins.
