Gipsy Moth IV Team arrive in Sydney on Thursday 6th July 2006

The Gipsy Moth IV Team, including Global Project Manager David Green, land in Sydney on the morning of Thursday 6th July 2006 and will be available for interview in the days running up to Gipsy Moth IV’s official arrival on Sunday 9th July 2006.

An interview bookings diary is being kept, to arrange a TV / Radio / Telephone interview or to request additional information or images please e-mail anna.symcox@uksa.org with your requests.

Thursday 6th –  Saturday 8th July 2006

  • Gipsy Moth IV Project Team available for interviews / meetings / TV / Radio / photos. Key people available for comment:

  • A VNR detailing the history of the project and the lead up to the yacht’s arrival is available to media, e-mail Anna for more details.

Sunday 9th July 2006

  • Gipsy Moth IV Officially arrives in Sydney
    • 1400 – 1600 hrs Gipsy Moth IV sails from The Heads to the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron.
    • 1530 – 1630 hrs Welcome drinks at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, a private party for members involved in fundraising for a new propeller for Gipsy Moth IV.

Monday 10th July 2006

  • Gipsy Moth IV sails around Sydney Harbour
    • 1900 hrs Dinner and lecture takes place at the RSYS for members.

Tuesday 11th July 2006

  • Gipsy Moth IV takes young people sailing in Sydney Harbour

Wednesday 12th July 2006

  • Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal arrives in Sydney for a series of events
    • 1800 hrs HRH The Princess Royal is guest of Honour at the Gipsy Moth IV Royal Gala Dinner and Australian Yachting Awards.
    • The evening will see awards being presented by HRH and a charity auction in aid of the Gipsy Moth IV Project.
  • The event will be covered by in-house TV crew and photographers, footage and images will be available on request.

Thursday 13th July 2006

  • 0915 – 1030 hrs Her Royal Highness meets people involved in Gipsy Moth IV’s original visit to Australia before officially opening a Gipsy Moth IV exhibition case at the Australian National Maritime Museum.
  • 1030 – 1200 hrs HRH will board Gipsy Moth IV and sail to the CYCA in Rushcutter’s bay for another engagement. This will be the first time HRH has sailed Gipsy Moth IV despite visiting the yacht on several occasions in the UK.
  • 1200 – 1400 hrs HRH attends engagement at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia
  • 1800 hrs David Green and Paul Gelder give a talk to members about Gipsy Moth IV’s history and her new lease of life.

Friday 14th July 2006

  • Gipsy Moth IV on display at the Australian National Maritime Museum until Sunday 16th July 2006 when she departs for Queensland. Gipsy Moth IV staff will be on hand to answer any questions and to give visitors guided tours of the yacht.
  • A lecture open to the public will be held at the National Maritime Museum on Friday evening. A detailed presentation will explain the restoration, the voyage and the vessel’s future. Tickets are available from the museum.

Sunday 16th July 2006

Gipsy Moth IV departs Sydney in the afternoon and heads up the coast for Mooloolaba in Queensland where UKSA Australia in based.

Gipsy Moth IV's second world voyage celebrates the 100th birthday of leading marine publication Yachting Monthly magazine and the 40th anniversary of Sir Francis' celebrated single-handed voyage.

Isle of Wight
Gipsy Moth supported through the Inspire Project.The Isle of Wight Economic Partnership, is proud to support Gipsy Moth IV, as title sponsor under the banner of our ‘Inspire’ project. Gipsy Moth is carrying the new Isle of Wight branding around the world to promote the Isle of Wight as a top destination for business, tourism and lifestyle.

Through support from the Inspire project, 120 young Isle of Wight people will have the opportunity to attend a two day residential activity and sailing course at the United Kingdom Sailing Academy. During this course 15 young people will be selected to fly out and join Gipsy Moth as crew and sail her from one of her global destinations to the next, giving them the opportunity to visit places such as New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Bali, Phuket and many others.

Gipsy Moth is the ideal vehicle to promote the Isle of Wight as she epitomises the spirit of adventure that we have here on the Isle of Wight
