Become a watersports Guru!

July 2006.

The UK Sailing Academy is a registered charity and non-profit making organisation with the specific aim of providing top quality training in Australia, Caribbean, Mediterranean and the UK. Since its inception in 1987, UKSA has established a global reputation for its contribution to the Marine Industry. In 2003, UKSA Australia was set up providing watersports instructor training programmes with qualifications that would be recognised worldwide. Mooloolaba, on Queenslands beautiful Gold Coast is home to UKSA’s Australia base, providing perfect conditions for teaching individuals to windsurf, dive and surf all year round.

UKSA’s Professional Instructor Training programmes provide the opportunity for watersports enthusiasts to start from the basics and follow suitable training right through to gaining qualifications that will enable them to teach watersports in locations all over the world. This intensive programme is run 6 weeks in Australia, 6 weeks in Cowes with students focusing on dinghy sailing and kayaking in Cowes and windsurfing in Australia. On completion of the 12 week programme, students gain qualifications to instructor level in dinghy sailing, windsurfing and kayaking.

The UKSA Australia base is only 5 mins from the student accommodation, situated on Australia’s 2nd largest river inlet. The location provides students of different abilities the challenge they are looking for, from wave sailing to flat water, Mooloolaba has it all. With student accommodation situated close to the beach with great facilities including a hot tub, sauna, swimming pool and BBQ, the UKSA training setup provides the perfect place to relax at the end of their busy day on the water.

UKSA also operates training facilities in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. Surrounded by one of the busiest and most challenging waterways in the world, UKSA’s Cowes base offers the perfect training ground for any keen sailor attracting sailors from all over the World. Cowes is globally recognised as the heart of UK sailing and famous for hosting the annual world-class yachting event, Skandia Cowes Week at the beginning of August, creating a fantastic atmosphere within this relatively small town.

UKSA in Cowes has a number of different training options available from watersports instructor training programmes to yachting and engineering courses with qualifications above and beyond industry requirements. These training programmes are designed at training individuals for a suitable career within the marine industry. The yachting courses available are for both sailing and motor yachts providing students the opportunity to gain qualifications in both fields with practical training elements take place in the UK, Mediterranean and Caribbean.

The engineering course is designed specifically for the marine industry and will provide students with the perfect level of skills and qualifications to launch their new career. At present there is a huge global shortage of qualified engineers and as a result some extremely prosperous and challenging opportunities are attainable worldwide.

Students looking at a career within the marine industry benefit from having a personal tutor throughout their course ensuring they gain the most from their training. There is also an on site careers department which provides support and guidance for those looking to find employment at the end of their training. Students have access to yachtcareers.com, an exclusive online employment and recruitment service where students are able to keep an up to date profile wherever they are around the world, allowing the opportunity for employers to search their profile and actually seek them for employment. Employers can access yachtcareers.com free of charge allowing them to search through our huge database for suitable employees. At present there are in excess of 800 companies recruiting directly from UKSA with some companies recruiting up to 20 students at any one time.

So if you or anyone you know have dreams of making a career out of watersports activities whatever they may be you should get in touch with UKSA in Mooloolaba and find out more about what is on offer.

Ends.
