The historic yacht, Gipsy Moth IV, in which Sir Francis Chichester sailed around the world in 1966, will be attending this year’s Barclays International Jersey Boat Show 29th April to 4th May. Visitors to the boat show will be invited on board the restored vessel and will also be offered charter trips and crewing opportunities for the crossing over to the Island from the UK and also on the return leg. All proceeds from the charter trip will go towards her vital maintenance and upkeep. Eileen Skinner, founder trustee of the Gipsy Moth Trust, said: “We can’t think of a better way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Sir Francis Chichester’s epic circumnavigation than by visiting the Jersey Boat Show and inviting the public to experience his legacy first-hand.” “Just stepping on board the boat really brings home what life was like for Chichester as he sailed, single-handedly, around the world all those years ago.” 2nd to 4th May 2017. Charter trips will also be available, including full day, half day and sunset champagne cruises on 2nd, 3rd and 4th May. For sailors looking for a more challenging experience, the yacht will also be available to crew for the passage from Jersey to Cowes/Southampton. Passengers do not need prior sailing experience but are welcome to get as involved in the practical sailing as they wish, alongside the professional skipper and mate. Gipsy Moth IV will also be ‘Circling Britain’ this year as part of her 50th anniversary celebrations. There will also be visits to Cherbourg, Weymouth, Plymouth, and Cowes. She will also be taking part in the ASTO Small Ships race.
