The Gipsy Moth Trust – like most charities, businesses and other organisations – has had its world turned upside down by Coronavirus (Covid-19). The Trust’s priority and responsibility must be the health and safety of everyone who sails on her in an environment where ‘social distancing’ is virtually impossible.
As you will understand, Gipsy Moth’s sailing season was programmed some months ago and many of you had booked places to sail on board. However, following the cancellation of many of the events she would be attending and in line with government advice, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel all sailing trips and events this season.
As I am sure you can also understand, this is devastating financially to our small charity. We have instantly lost approximately 95% of our income for the year with ongoing uncertainty as to when this situation will be resolved. This income is used to fund unavoidable overheads – moorings, insurance and maintenance. Processing refunds also costs the Gipsy Moth Trust significant amounts of money because we incur financial transaction charges levied on us by banks and credit card companies when selling and refunding places on board.
Everyone who has booked places on board for each of these events/trips will be contacted individually to offer the option to have a credit towards a future sailing trip, a refund or to donate the value (or part of the value) of your trip to our fundraising campaign to ensure that Gipsy Moth can continue to sail in the future.
